Books for Creative Minds

I consider myself a self taught artist, so I wanted to dedicate more time to reading and learning subjects that interest me and intentionally fuel my creativity. I enjoy reading non fictions book, especially those devoted to the world of art and design. Reading about other creatives’ journeys and careers and finding solidarity in the struggles they experienced is beneficial for overcoming my own self doubts . It helps me know that I am not alone in my path. Books also provide another area to gather my inspiration and require me to use my imagination. I am sharing a few favorites I have come across so far recently

I am a sucker for coffee table books, especially those that are filled with beautiful photography. When I want to slip into a different world, I am find myself flipping through the pages of Bricks and Brownstones. I absolutely love Brownstones and I get lost in the images of the architecture and lifestyle of these historic homes.

I have not had a chance to read The Creative Act yet, but I have only heard wonderful things. I am excited to dive in a learn from the mind of another creative.

I stumbled across John Derian’s Picture Book, and I am so glad I did. It is a collection of stunning illustrations. It is always fun to flip through and admire a world of the past.

I have owned Art as Therapy for quiet awhile, almost ten years, but finely just started reading it this year. Alain de Botton’s writing style is sometimes difficult for me - especially when reading at night before bed, it easy to get lost, but the content is so extremely valuable. It definitely gives you ideas to think about.

How Art Can Change Your Life was another fantastic read. Susie Hodge gathers many examples to educate the reader about a variety of art styles and the emotions they are portraying. I found this book to be really educational and to open my eye up to more artists that interest me.

As I continue on my self art education journey, I will try to share more books and resources for those that are interested.
